The California Institute for Dance Learning (a Project of Luna Kids Dance)
is offering the following workshops/events for March:

Summer Institute
July 20-25, 2009
Mills College, Oakland

Are you a dance teaching artists seeking to enliven your curriculum or recharge your teaching? Luna Kids Dance Summer Institute 2009 is now accepting applications. Selected artists  work with classroom teachers to create, improv, and expand dance in their communities. No cost to participants. Developing & Implementing Creative Dance Curricula-A/Summer Intensive
July 8-10, 2009, 9:00 am-5:00 pm
Mills College, Oakland

This course defines a creative, standards-based approach to teaching dance. Content includes:  structuring discrete standards-based lessons, as well as integrating dance into comprehensive curricula; the elements of dance; child development theory; the role of the teacher; and establishing a conducive learning environment for dance. For dancer teaching artists, classroom teachers and any practitioner wishing for a foundation of dance teaching as a pre-requisite to LKD advanced workshops. $375. Meets college/university professional standards.

Dance in Early Childhood
May 2, 2009 9:30-12:30, Berkeley
Explore children’s natural ability to learn through movement. Learn to use dance activities to further the creative social, language and cognitive capacities of the young child, age 2-5.
For dancers, teachers, parents, administrators, ECE caregivers, social service workers.No pre-requisite. $90

Teaching Parent-Child Dance Classes
May 2, 2009 1:30-4:30, Berkeley
Investigate how dance can support the paent-child relationship:  learn to design and teach relationship-based dance curricula.
For dance teaching artists, classroom teachers, supervisors and administrators.
Pre-requisite: Any prior LKD workshop $90.

Dance Literacy
May 9, 2009, 9:30-12:30, Berkeley
Explore what it means to be dance literate.  In this seminar we will define literacy, examine how national arts initiatives and standards affect dance literacy, and develop a personal philosophy of dance teaching. 
For dance teaching artists, classroom teachers, supervisors and administrators. Pre-requisite DICDC-A, SI, school partners or equivalent.  $90

Dance Teachers' Monthly Free Consultations
The California for Dance Learning offers Dance Teachers¹ Monthly Free Consultations: April 14, May 12, 4:30-6:30pm, at the CIDL, 2138 Cedar Street, Berkeley. Visit the CIDL the second Tuesday of each month to use our resource library to help support your work as a dance teacher or artist!

Lesson Study
Monthly 4/14 (Secondary Dance Curriculum), 5/12 (Creativity), 2009 6:30-8:30 following FREE drop-in consultations.  Deepen teacher investigation into dane curricula: content and structures.

Reflective Teacher, Reflective Student workshop  in combination
with our Celebration of Dance Learning Day!

Bring your student reflections as well as your own reflections from this last school year.  We realize that we didn't get to the gallery walk  of your work at the mid-year meeting, so here is your chance to share! We will hold the workshop from 9:30 -11:30am and then the Luna Studio Lab will have a small, live showing of some of our classes. These events will take place at Grace North Church in Berkeley (very BART accessible!)

will be sharing from your teaching practice and/or your students so we
can plan acordingly.
