LUNA SUPPORTING - OUSD HIGH SCHOOL DANCE FESTIVAL 2010

This is a collaborative project arranged by high school dance specialists Avilee Goodwin (East Oakland School for the Arts) and Sonja Travic (Oakland Technical High School). The aim is to bring together students to collaborate as young dance artists and expose them to artists and dance styles, build a wider culture for dance within the district through a sharing of learning and resources.

Through a series of morning workshops, students will learn contact improvisation, Chinese ribbon dance and musical theater-style jazz – styles they are often not exposed to in their standards-based dance curriculum. An invaluable experience for the students which broadens their experiences in dance and opens them up to new movement ideas. This is the first of what is hoped to be an annual event, this day of dance workshops and performance will showcases the high caliber of dance learning in the district.

OVER 100 PEOPLE PARTICIPATE AT LUNA'S

OPEN HOUSE

We had a fantastic Open House event on January 9th, 2010, where over 100 families with children ranging from 2 - 17 years old, participated in our free family dance classes.  The day included opportunities to greet staff, enjoy refreshments, participate in free dance classes and view a teen composition class performance.  The day concluded with a child winning a free session of dance classes and families leaving happily.
